Upload failed in Percify: file size limits and formats

Percify upload limits by tool: photos, audio, video and reference files, the error each one shows, and how to fix a file that won’t upload.

Uploads in Percify fail for three main reasons: the file is over the size limit for that tool, it isn’t a format the tool reads, or it breaks the content policy. Photos for your avatar are shrunk in your browser before they upload, so a large phone photo usually goes through. Audio and video are not shrunk, so compress or trim them to fit the limits below.

Size limits and errors by tool

Files over about 30 MB that upload through the Playground or Realtime video can fail even when they are under the stated limit. If you see an error ending in (413), the file was too big to send. Compress it and try again.

Which formats work?

• Photos: JPG, PNG, WEBP and HEIC. If the file isn’t a readable image you’ll see That file is not an image we can read. Try a JPG, PNG, WEBP or HEIC. Photos keep their orientation when they’re resized, so phone photos don’t come out sideways.
• SVG images in the Playground are converted to PNG. If that fails: That SVG could not be read as an image. Please upload a PNG or JPEG.
• Audio: Clone Yourself and Voices take audio files, and recordings need to be at least 5 seconds long. For lip-sync models in the Playground, use MP3 or WAV.
• Video: MP4 is the safest choice. For Replicate a short you can also paste a TikTok, YouTube Shorts or Reels link instead of uploading a file. If a video can’t be read you’ll see We couldn’t process this video. Please try a different file.

Rejected by the content policy

Images and videos you add as references in the Playground, Realtime video and other creation tools are checked before they’re saved. A rejected file shows This image violates our content policy and cannot be uploaded. Please try a different image. (or the same message for a video). Uploading a different file is the only fix. Repeated or severe violations suspend the account, and the message then reads Your account has been suspended for violating content policies.

How to fix a failed upload

1. Check the limit for the tool you're in

   Find it in the table above and compare it with your file’s size.

2. Make the file smaller

   Trim audio to the part you need, export video at a lower resolution or bitrate, and save images as JPG.

3. Convert the format

   Save photos as JPG or PNG, audio as MP3 or WAV, and video as MP4.

4. Use a link for long source videos

   In Replicate a short, paste the video’s link instead of uploading the file.

5. Retry on a stable connection

   A plain Upload failed with no other reason can come from a dropped connection. Try again on a steadier network.

If a file inside the limits keeps failing, email [e-mail] with the tool you used, the file type and size, and the exact message.
